Galatians 4 (Part 2) | Eric Roberts

In Galatians 4:21-31, Paul uses the story of Abraham's two sons—one born to the slave woman Hagar and the other to the free woman Sarah—to illustrate two covenants. Hagar represents the old covenant of the Law, leading to bondage, while Sarah represents the new covenant of freedom through God's promise. Paul urges believers not to live under the bondage of the law but embrace the freedom found in the new covenant through faith in Christ.

Highlights:

1. The story of Hagar and Sarah symbolizes two different covenants: the old covenant of the Law and the new covenant of grace.

2. Hagar's son, born through natural means, represents human efforts and slavery, while Sarah's son, born through God's promise, represents freedom and God's miraculous provision.

3. Paul calls believers to live as children of the promise, embracing the freedom that comes from faith, not relying on their works or the Law.

Life Applications:

1. Embrace your identity as a child of God's promise, relying on His grace rather than trying to earn His favor through personal effort.

2. Recognize and reject any mindset or influence that tries to bring you back into legalism or bondage, choosing instead the freedom that Christ offers.

3. Trust in God’s promises rather than your own ability; He provides what He promises, even when circumstances seem impossible.
